It’s been seven years since Atlanta United hoisted the MLS Cup in only its second season. Manager Tata Martino left after winning that title, and the team has never been quite the same, falling all the way to the bottom of the league in 2025. But with the announcement that Martino has been rehired as the new manager, replacing the fired Ronnie Deila, hope springs eternal and hopefully fan support will swell back to its former glory in 2026, a year where soccer will take center stage in the U.S. when the FIFA World Cup comes to town. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
