It’s been 13 years since the Atlanta Beat, the city’s former women’s soccer team, went defunct along with its league. But according to sources, it may be coming back, courtesy of Arthur Blank. Reporting over the weekend indicated that Blank has purchased an NWSL franchise for $165 million, and the team would start in ’27 or ’28. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop.
