Despite a crackdown on illegal immigration this year when President Donald Trump took office, Georgia’s total population of unauthorized immigrants has swelled to nearly 500,000, per a new report from the Migration Policy Institute. Since 2018 the state’s illegal immigrant population has grown by more than 45%, and Georgia has surpassed New Jersey to move up to 6th in the U.S. in total unauthorized population. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop.
