Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Russell McMurry has been elected the president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. He’ll work with Congress to enact a new long-term federal surface transportation bill that reauthorizes the federal highway, highway safety, transit and rail programs before the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act expires. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop.
