The official announcement of which teams will be playing in Atlanta next summer for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was mildly disappointing – countries traveling to the Peach State will include South Africa, Morocco, Haiti, Uzbekistan (who?) and Cape Verde (WHO?). Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
