The monumental merger between railroad giants Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific spells bad news for workers at the former company’s Atlanta headquarters. With Union Pacific purchasing Norfolk Southern, it plans to cut Atlanta operations by about half, and move many jobs to its Omaha, Nebraska HQ. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop.
