Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has called for fans to “stay away” from this year’s World Cup, calling out the Trump Administration and warning that international fans would have to watch out if they came to the U.S. for matches. No mention, though, of the fact that Blatter was forced to resign from FIFA due to corruption investigations, nor that previous World Cups have been hosted by countries like Qatar (accused of using slave labor to build stadiums) and Russia (literally invading its neighbor). Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
