Mercer University has purchased the historic Capitol Theater in downtown Macon, giving it a new name and a new mission – while still hosting concerts and other performances that lovers of the arts have enjoyed for generations.  Now known as the Robins Financial Capitol Theatre (Mercer purchased it in partnership with Robins Financial Credit Union), the theater will add student performances to its schedule and also serve as a learning lab in Mercer’s forthcoming music production and music business degree programs.  The theater originally opened as a movie house in 1916, but closed in 1976 until it was purchased and restored in 2006.
