A pair of Democrats launched campaigns Tuesday to try and win seats on Georgia’s Supreme Court, and they’re packing impressive resumes. Former state Sen. Jen Jordan, who ran for attorney general in 2022, is challenging Justice Sarah Warren, while trial lawyer Miracle Rankin is running against Justice Charlie Bethel. But they’ll face an uphill battle – an incumbent Georgia Supreme Court justice hasn’t lost an election since 1922. And they’ll have to get their campaigns rolling quickly, the nonpartisan election takes place on May 19th, not in November with the rest of the midterms. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
