House passes “historic” early literacy, education bills

Tuesday was billed as 'Education Day’ in the House Chamber. State Representatives passed a “historic" package of early literacy and education bills, marking a major milestone in strengthening educational opportunities for Georgia’s children, most notably House Bill 1193, the Georgia Early Literacy Act of 2026, according to House Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington. 

“Today, the Georgia House reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to ensuring every child in Georgia has an opportunity to learn, dream and create a better, brighter future for themselves,” said Burns. “These bills represent a historic step forward for strengthening early literacy and improving outcomes for Georgia’s students in the classroom and beyond.”
