As news spread Saturday of U.S.-Israel military strikes on Iran, Georgia lawmakers seemed to be split along party lines in their support or protest of the action. The Republican representatives from Georgia are standing behind the president and the effort to unseat an Iran regime that has sponsored terrorism and oppressed its own people, while Democrats – led by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff – are very vocal in their opposition. Ossoff is up for re-election this year.
Ossoff and his Democratic colleague, Sen. Raphael Warnock, joined along with the Georgia Democrats in the U.S. House, criticizing President Donald Trump for bypassing Congress and for “risking getting the country involved in greater insecurity in the Middle East.” Ossoff even called for Congress to reconvene immediately.
