House passes McBath-sponsored bill to fight human trafficking

With its status as one of the top logistics or transportation states in the country – between Hartsfield and being near the southern terminus of 3 major interstates – Georgia is also sadly one of the nation’s leading states for human trafficking. In 2024, the National Human Trafficking Hotline data showed nearly 22,000 victims of trafficking in the U.S. The issue has made its way to the attention of Congress and the latest efforts come from a bill sponsored by Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA 7) and Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI 7). 

The bill mostly takes aim at ensuring the Department of Labor has the proper training and data collection tools to identify and report human trafficking victims. The bill passed unanimously in the House.
