As legislators close in on the end of the 2026 legislative session, their focus is currently on the passage of a budget. Earlier this week, the House overwhelmingly approved House Bill 974 - the House version of the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget that includes the state’s share of funding to make sure Georgia children are fed during the summer.

Officials said the state funding ensures 1.1 million Georgia children are fed during the summer months when they don’t have access to school meals through the SUN Bucks program. The budget, which now goes to the Senate for consideration, includes a $2 million downpayment on the state’s $5 million share that will draw down $143 million in federal funds annually.
