A Democrat ex-mayor sprinkled pachyderm dust over herself and transitioned to be a Republican to run in Georgia after being humiliated in her Illinois city for being “America’s worst mayor.” Tiffany Henyard is the only candidate running for Fulton County Commission District 5 as a Republican. And get this: Her mayoral tenure was marred with chaos and federal investigations. (Last year she lost re-election in a landslide by 70 points.) Now this “new Georgian” challenges four Democrats as a Republican in a heavily Democrat district. And if she wins, she has told some that she’ll switch back to being a Democrat again! Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
