Georgia Ports’ Gainesville inland port sets opening

On Tuesday, James Magazine reported on the improvements for cold shipping to Georgia’s ports. Now, years in the making, the date has been set for the official opening of the Georgia Ports Authority’s (GPA) new Gainesville inland port. The direct rail connection to the Savannah port will allow not only allow imports headed up Interstate 85 to offload with a several hour headstart into their journey for the booming north Georgia and Carolinas markets but also connect the tremendous industry of north Georgia. Poultry, heavy equipment and lumber will be able to reach their export destination in Savannah more directly, bypassing the highways around Atlanta or the state highways connecting I-85 to I-16.
