Economic development and tourism professionals are always looking for innovative ways to draw in visitors – and what better way than robots? Enter the city of Augusta’s ‘bots on broad,’ which is less of a traditional talking robot and more of an interactive experience meant to get people out on the streets of downtown Augusta, taking in all the city has to offer. The project from Augusta & Company features a new experience tourism guide, a fully-designed destination website, and mobile-friendly digital kiosks that help show visitors around and get them exploring parts of the city they may have never experienced. The symbol of the project is Augusta’s famous ‘Happy robot,’ the cheery design of local artist Leonard “Pork Chop” Zimmerman who’s served as an unofficial mascot for the city since 2012.
