You’ve heard of many new cities springing up around Georgia over the past decade, but you probably haven’t heard of as many disappearing. That’s what happened to the city of Quitman in south Georgia, which lawmakers agreed to dissolve by passing HB 1567 yesterday. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
