Building on the momentum of the 2025 legislative session, the Senate Committee on Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security, was able to pass a bill this year that extends burial eligibility in state veterans’ cemeteries to veterans from the Hmong-Laotian special guerrilla units who served with U.S. forces during the Vietnam War. House Bill 985 is now sitting on the Governor’s desk and awaiting his signature.
“These veterans fought and died alongside American soldiers, yet their service has often gone unrecognized,” said Sen. Chuck Payne, R–Dalton. “That is simply unacceptable. HB 985 ensures they receive the dignity and honor they have earned, including the right to be laid to rest in Georgia, a state they are proud to call home. I look forward to seeing Gov. Brian Kemp sign this bill into law as we continue our commitment to all of our brave military members and their families.”
