While candidates took the stage Monday night for the only major debate between Republican candidates for Georgia governor, a record number of voters had already cast their ballot.

According to information from the Secretary of State’s office, the first day of early voting saw record turnout for a midterm primary election in the state, as 35,352 Georgians cast their ballot in-person. This is a 29 percent increase over the 2022 primary election, officials said.
