Georgia has a special connection to North Atlantic right whales. They’re the state’s official marine mammal, and their birthing grounds are off our coast. They’re also critically endangered with fewer than 400 individuals remaining, and scientists and researchers are constantly working to help support their survival. Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
