Zoo Atlanta hosted Giant Pandas from 1999-2024, a successful quarter century that saw seven cubs born from Lun Lun and Yang Yang. But all the pandas returned home to China after some political drama, ending the partnership. Luckily that break didn’t last long – as it was announced recently that pandas will be returning to the Peach State this year. Male Ping Ping and female Fu Shuang are making the long flight to Atlanta, and our zoo’s top notch team hopes to successfully produce some more Georgia cubs, as well as serve as the zoo’s most popular attraction once again. Atlanta, Fulton Co. square off in tax fight
The City of Atlanta has long used tax allocation districts (TADs) as an economic development tool, leveraging property tax increases to pay for local infrastructure projects. But the Fulton County Commission has slammed on the brakes, voting 4-1 to reject a proposed 30-year extension of Atlanta’s TADs. That sets up a major budgetary clash, as the Fulton TADs would be expected to generate over a billion dollars over that period.
