The married judge who had sex with a police commander in her court chambers within earshot of shocked law clerks, and who just received a reprimand after lying about it, is Judge Eleanor Ross of the Atlanta-based U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. The 58-year-old federal judge, nominated to the bench by former President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate in 2014, wasn’t identified in a special judicial conduct committee’s report– but her name was leaked to the media. According to the report, Ross had sex “in chambers and during business hours,” demonstrating “a gross lack of judgement” over the course of the 2023-25 relationship. Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path.
