One of the major issues during this special legislative session is an effort to lower property taxes – but Democrats have successfully blocked the first GOP effort. Republican leaders in both the House and Senate tried to push through legislation that would allow voters to approve a one penny sales tax in their home municipality, the proceeds of which would go toward lowering property taxes. But needing a two-thirds majority in either the House or Senate, Dems were able to stop the bills in their tracks. Questions linger over Atlanta City Hall investigation
An ongoing investigation into former Atlanta Municipal Clerk Foris Webb III is hitting roadblocks, as city employees are delaying or rejecting interviews by the inspector general. Webb received more than $900,000 in consulting fees from the city for his “work” on a referendum meant to block the city’s law enforcement training center, dubbed “Cop City.” That referendum got held up in court, never wound up doing anything, and the center was built, but Webb continued to cash a $35,000 check each month.
