On Saturday, the Georgia Senate approved a bill that would require hand recounts of all ballots cast for the top two races of any Georgia election before certification. Monday, members of the House Government Affairs committee held discussion on the bill and listened to testimony from the public but did not take action.
Chairman Victor Anderson, R-Cornelia, announced at the start of the meeting that no action would be taken Monday, and the committee would hold another hearing on the proposed legislation, probably Tuesday morning. The committee is scheduled to meet at 7:30 am today. The full House will be back in session at 8 a.m.
Much of the concern about SB 3 EX during Monday’s hearing centered on inaccurate results and delayed elections.
“Not a single state in the U.S. requires hand counts, why would we?” asked Rep. Gabriel Sanchez, D-Smyrna.
