Last Thursday Columbia County officials announced a partnership with Georgia Power and Google to establish new development standards and restrictions on data centers. This came as Columbia County Commission Chairman Doug Duncan met with President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C.

Google will be the sole operator of the Columbia County data center to be built in a sparsely populated area by Appling and has committed to paying 100 percent of all energy costs associated with the project.

Georgia Power says that its committed to keeping rates stable through 2028, with annual savings of more than $100 for average residential customers planned after that.
