The special election to fill the U.S. House seat previously held by the late David Scott is headed to an August 10th runoff, after Marcye Scott, the youngest of David Scott's two daughters, fell just short of 50% of the vote.  She will face fellow Democrat Everton Blair Jr. in the runoff to try and fill her father's former seat for the rest of the year.

The seat (like every congressional seat) is also on the ballot in November, but state Rep. Jasmine Clark, a Lilburn Democrat, has already secured her party's nomination and will be expected to easily win the dark blue, Atlanta-area seat.  Scott or Blair will serve only through the end of the year, but that could prove more consequential than it sounds.
