It is rare for a native-born Georgian to serve as an ambassador to a foreign nation, but J. Mark Burkhalter is one of that elite having been nominated by President Donald Trump and then just confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The Alpharetta native represented north Fulton County in the General Assembly for 18 years and briefly served as speaker of the House of Representatives. A successful real estate developer, Burkhalter is a University of Georgia alum with a double major in German and Slavic Languages, and Global Studies/Political Science. Bottoms ignored metro Atlanta counties
It’s shocking to learn that former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms never became a board member of the Atlanta Regional Commission because she never attended a single ARC board meeting during her tenure. Beyond missing the board meetings, the Democrat also refused to join ARC’s regional leadership visits to other metropolitan areas to examine city planning and technical infrastructure best practices. This contrasts sharply with her successor, Mayor Andre Dickens. He engaged with the bipartisan commission and later became ARC board chairman, emphasizing a desire for closer regional connectivity. A spokesman for Democrats for Jackson (GOP gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson) queries: “She could care less about metro Atlanta but now she wants to be governor?” Bottoms is SINKING…
