It was another sad day in Atlanta when a man with a history of at least 30 arrests was arrested Sunday on the Atlanta Beltline for allegedly stabbing and killing another man after a confrontation.
In a 2017 Fulton County case the attacker was actually charged with assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony and was accused of stabbing a man. He stayed in custody until 2020. Back then some critics say the Fulton County district attorney’s office dropped the ball by failing to follow through and revoke the man’s probation.
Now Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens is pushing for answers to curbing such crimes, and a heartfelt open letter to the Atlanta community and its leaders from the family of the attacker provides some. The family suggests needed reforms and is especially critical of the county’s judicial system with regard to their son’s mental illness.
