Farmers on the lookout for new invasive insect

Move over killer bees and Joro spiders, Georgia has a new invasive bug to look out for – the pasture mealybug.  While not the most intimidating name nor profile, the tiny insect can devastate annual and perennial warm-season grasses, especially concerning to turf grass farmers, common in southwest Georgia.  And with the first sighting of the pest at a farm in Decatur Co., Ag Commissioner Tyler Harper says farmers should be on alert and to report any sightings.  There are currently no labeled pesticides that deal with the mealybug, so prevention is key lest it has turf farmers SINKING…
