The Georgia Department of Transportation is partnering with The Ray for an innovative partnership that will build monarch butterfly pollinator meadows on highway rights-of-way across the state. GDOT is preparing the spaces, while The Ray coordinates the planting of the habitats with native vegetation meant to attract monarch butterflies. These meadows will be monitored and studied, not only to check on the monarch populations but also as a practical tool for slope stabilization and erosion control. “Monarch butterfly populations have been declining in recent years, and these pollinator sites demonstrate how transportation infrastructure and environmental stewardship can create meaningful conservation opportunities,” said GDOT Commissioner Russell McMurry.
