Former Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shermela Williams resigned in February in the midst of an investigation from the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission that included some 30 charges of misconduct. That move allowed her to escape punishment, but yesterday the Georgia Supreme Court agreed with the JQC’s investigation, saying Williams deserved punishment, but since she was no longer a judge, the point was moot. Georgia lawmakers back the Braves
As the Atlanta Braves continue their playoff battle with the LA Dodgers, a group of Georgia lawmakers are backing them in a battle of their own. U.S. Reps. Brian Jack and Lucy McBath, along with U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock, have introduced legislation to extend a provision in the 2021 American Rescue Plan that would allow publicly traded organizations – like the Braves – to treat some of their high-salaried players like executives as a normal business would.
