The General Assembly is dominated by Republicans so naturally there’s a lot of speculation as to whether the party will still be in the majority in the House and Senate chambers after November. Yet despite the muddied national scene, it appears for now the GOP will maintain control. Let’s consider key races. 

Democrats might pick up a seat or two in the state Senate. GOP Sen. Brian Strickland (who is running for attorney general) represents an east metro area that is becoming politically marginal. The Henry and Newton County portions definitely are trending Democrat. Even Sen. Ed Setzler's Cobb County district isn't as Republican as it used to be. But those are the only Senate seats the GOP should worry about.
