Augusta Regional Airport has been announced as a recipient of an $800,000 grant from the US Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development that would go towards opening a new direct route to Chicago. These grant funds are used by smaller airports to incentivize carriers to open new routes by helping with monetary risks and marketing. Augusta last received a similar grant in 2017, which it used to secure daily service to Washington D.C. Augusta Airport Executive Director Herbert Judon says “the timing of potential service to Chicago is great for our region as we continue to grow and introduce more work/play options for our citizens.”
