Despite court suits delaying the certification of votes from all 159 Georgia counties, the numbers tallied in the gubernatorial race between Republican Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacy Abrams haven’t really changed since election night. Consider the totals compiled as of noon yesterday:
* Total Votes Reported: 3,938,582
* Kemp: 1,978,170 (50.23%)
* Abrams: 1,923,185 (48.83%)
* Ted Metz: 37,227 (.95%)
The Kemp Margin: + 54,985 votes
Most counties have certified their election numbers, including the big Democrat turnout counties of Fulton and DeKalb counties. Gwinnett County, carried by Abrams, remains uncertified. But most objective observers, including some in the Abrams camp who can’t go on the record, say that even if every vote (including illegally-cast provisional ballots) was granted by the courts to Abrams, Kemp still wins this race without a runoff.
As the Kemp campaign has repeatedly said, no pending court decision changes that mathematical fact. Consider these statistics:
* Original Provisional Ballots in all 159 Counties: 21,190
* Total Provisional Ballots Accepted in all 159 Counties: 11,872
* Percentage of Provisional Ballots Deemed Ineligible by County Officials: 43.97%
* Maximum Number of eligible provisional ballots outstanding in all counties: 0
* Maximum Possible Remaining Outstanding Military Absentee Ballots in Counties Not Yet Certified: 0
* Total possible ballots remaining: roughly 411 (absentees reported by Gwinnett County with questionable birth date issues).
This campaign is over for Abrams. Kemp is the governor-elect.
