State Rep. Erica Thomas (D-Austell) made national headlines over the weekend when she took to the internet to tell the story of how a man in a Cobb supermarket verbally berated her and told her to “go back to where you came from” in a dispute over misuse of the express checkout lane. She later had to back off the racism angle when challenged by the man, Eric Sparkes, an avowed Democrat of Cuban descent, who vehemently denied making any racist comments during the confrontation and says he is now considering a lawsuit for defamation. Meteorite lands in Georgia
On Thursday afternoon many Georgians noticed a blaze of light flash across the sky. It wasn’t a bird or a plane – it was a meteorite plummeting to earth. And starting on Friday a very specific breed of tourists descended on the state; meteorite hunters. Armed with rare mineral magnets, the hunters searched fields and construction sites in and around West Forest, in Henry County, searching for chunks of space rock that can be sold for more than $100 a gram.
