“If you are visiting, or live in, the city of Atlanta then don’t have a non-injury vehicle accident,” warns a Facebook response to a recent, little-publicized policy change by the Atlanta Police Department. People who saw the post on Facebook by Atlanta311 announcing the policy immediately pointed out problems with it, which police claim is temporary “to protect the health and safety of our staff and customers.”

Several attorneys contacted by InsiderAdvantage wonder, for example, how liability involving such accidents will be determined— something obviously important when accident victims deal with insurance companies. Furthermore, the attorneys wonder if more people will now flee the scene of a non-injury accident.

Drivers involved in non-injury accidents are instructed to complete a SR-13 form, used in the past for accidents on private property. It’s available here on the Atlanta 311 website. Just type “accident” in the search field and click on “APD – Non-Injury Automobile Accidents In The City Of Atlanta”.

Among the many complaints being aired about the new policy is the question of why wasn’t there a public education program initiated to alert the public before the policy was implemented.

And how long is “temporary,” some ask, since this policy is linked to combatting the COVOD-19 problem– and that doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon.
