Trees, trees, and more trees

Atlanta has long been known as “the city in a forest,” owing to the fact that it boasts a remarkably high tree coverage rate for a major city – a 2014 study put the ratio at 48% coverage.  Local residents and conservationists though, are not resting on their laurels though, as Trees Atlanta launched the One Million Trees Initiative earlier this year with the intention to protect and plant one million trees in the Atlanta metropolitan area by 2030.  The group recently convinced the city of Sandy Springs to join the initiative, and the city council has already made it an official priority to plant at least 300 trees in 2020 in order to protect and enhance the tree canopy.  Good for shade, aesthetics, and the environment – Atlanta’s devotion to its trees continues to RISE…
