Georgia Ranked 49th in Arts Funding
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s lockout was followed up by news this week that ‘Georgia Shakespeare’ is drawing the curtain for good after 29 years as one of the state’s premier theatre groups. One could argue that the arts aren’t something the government should be spending money on, but when you’re 49th in the nation in TOTAL spending, (not per capita) and your most esteemed arts groups are going belly up, it might be time to think about valuing a pretty major part of the city’s culture.
