The Georgia Senate, controlled by Republicans, will have a new leadership team when the General Assembly convenes in January. The chamber’s GOP Caucus unanimously voted that new Lt.-Gov.- Burt Jones would continue to wield all the office’s current powers, including naming committee chairmanships. Sen. John F. Kennedy was elected Senate President Pro Tempore, Sen. Steve Gooch was chosen Majority Leader, Sen. Jason Anavitarte was selected Caucus Chair and Sen. Randy Robertson was named the Caucus Whip (primarily the group’s “vote counter”). Georgia approves three-year bachelor’s degree
Georgia is joining a handful of other states in trying out a new three-year bachelor’s degree program meant to get students into the job market faster. The University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents has approved the Bachelor of Applied Science, which cuts down on electives and only requires 90 credit hours instead of the traditional 120.
