Sextortion reports skyrocket in Atlanta

According to a new report from the FBI, Atlanta saw a 20% increase in sextortion cases involving minors from 2022 to 2023. Sextortion is when an individual is coerced into sending sexually explicit pictures to someone else, who then blackmails them.  The 196 reported incidents last year are up a whopping 700% from 2021.  Sextortion falls under the FBI’s purview because many cases go across state, or even international lines, so the legislature and local authorities can only do so much.  FBI officials say that parents need to remain vigilant about their children’s internet usage because the spike in cases has Atlanta’s youth SINKING…
