A large majority of Americans will be watching the 90-minute debate at 9 pm EDT today between former Republican President Donald Trump and Democrat President Joe Biden. It will be the first time Georgia has hosted a presidential debate, and it will be at CNN’s Atlanta studios. Furthermore, the event will be moderated by CNN’s Dana Bash and Jake Tapper, whose objectivity is being challenged due to their past openly anti-Trump statements.
Trump supporters plan to gather near CNN’s Midtown Atlanta studio in a flag- and sign-waving show of support and far-left groups also plan nearby demonstrations— which will keep law enforcement agencies busy.
Atlanta police are especially monitoring the radical Antifa as well as the Democratic Socialists of America which are planning an anti-Israel demonstration. “Many of us have been in Atlanta and no matter how many people come out and say that they want this war to stop, they want a permanent cease fire in Palestine, the president is not really budging on it,” says Kelsea Bond, co-chair of the group’s Atlanta chapter. “We don’t think Trump would be any better, so we are protesting both of them.”
As for pre-debate polling, Trump is leading Biden in Georgia in a poll commissioned by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and released Tuesday. The survey of likely voters shows the former president leads Biden 43 percent to 38 percent– outside the margin of error of 3.1 percent. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is expected to be on the Georgia ballot, pulled 9 percent and 8 percent are undecided.
Also, on the eve of the debate, the conservative Greater Georgia Action released a new digital ad campaign. The 30-second spot, entitled “Promises,” highlights the Biden administration’s broken promises, particularly to blacks. The media release says, “This is in contrast to the promise of the American Dream, which former President Donald Trump’s administration delivered for all communities, especially working families– reducing black unemployment and poverty levels to record lows.” The ad campaign will reach voters on streaming services and digital platforms within the Atlanta metro area and runs through Saturday.
