The Athens-Clarke County Courthouse building in downtown has been shut down for a full week thanks to an unusual issue – a bedbug infestation. The historic downtown Athens building, which houses the offices of the sheriff, tax commissioner, district attorney and others, is scheduled to reopen July 29, assuming the pests can be removed. In the meantime county services have hit a snag, with all jury trials and hearings suspended. This is the second bedbug infestation the courthouse has faced in recent years after a 2023 incident similarly closed the building for about a week. Atlanta snubbed for ’28 DNC Convention
The City of Atlanta and the Georgia Democratic Party made a strong push to host the 2028 Democratic National Convention, but fell short once again when it was announced that Boston, Denver and Philadelphia are the three finalists.
