The grand opening of the new visitor center at Vogel State Park outside Blairsville – the state’s second-oldest state park - drew a crowd of community members and state and local officials, eager to witness the unveiling of the new facility, made possible in part from a $4.67 million grant from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program. Nestled amid the scenic North Georgia mountains, the center serves as both a tribute to the park’s rich history and a gateway to future adventures for generations to come.
Officials from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and members of the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Trust Fund Board of Trustees were also on hand for the ribbon-cutting at one of the state’s signature parks. Vogel was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression, who used rustic elements like stone and timber – often locally sourced, or even sourced on site – for construction, and the new 6,500 square-foot facility incorporates some of those same elements.
