A bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives late last week would mean $65.7 million for Georgia’s ports. Rep. Buddy Carter, R-GA, announced Monday that he was able to secure the funding through the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2026 to fund the United States Army Corps of Engineers’ modification and maintenance of the Port of Brunswick and the Port of Savannah.

The legislation is now headed to the Senate for consideration.

According to Carter, this investment is crucial to both the Port of Brunswick and the Port of Savannah in their continued service to local and global trade. “They are the No. 1 gateway in the nation for autos and heavy machinery roll-on/roll-off, as well as the largest single-terminal container facility in North America, respectively. In FY24 alone, Georgia’s ports accounted for 11 percent of Georgia’s total sales, amounting to $174 billion.”
