Speaker of the House Jon Burns, R-Newington, has committed to tax relief during this session of the Georgia General Assembly. Wednesday, on the 8th day of the 2026 Legislative session, Burns introduced “historic property tax relief.” According to Burns, the HOME Act will eliminate homestead property taxes statewide by 2032, all while keeping currently implemented property tax exemptions intact.

“We are delivering on our commitment to make life more affordable for our neighbors across the state—starting where it matters most—at home,” said Burns. “Georgia House Republicans believe no one should ever face the loss of their home because they can’t afford to pay rent to the government, which is why we’re proud to be championing the Georgia Home Ownership and Market Equalization Act of 2026, which will enable the elimination of homestead property taxes by 2032.
