Amidst all the alarming headlines of today it may be easy to overlook the fact that U.S. Postmaster General David Steiner testified to the U.S. House Oversight Committee that the U.S. Post Office is in a funding crisis and “will be out of cash in less than 12 months.” U.S. Rep. Brian Jack, a member of the committee, questioned Steiner about some of the issues facing USPS as well as problems with some of the post offices in his own district. Atlanta, Fulton Co. square off in tax fight
The City of Atlanta has long used tax allocation districts (TADs) as an economic development tool, leveraging property tax increases to pay for local infrastructure projects. But the Fulton County Commission has slammed on the brakes, voting 4-1 to reject a proposed 30-year extension of Atlanta’s TADs. That sets up a major budgetary clash, as the Fulton TADs would be expected to generate over a billion dollars over that period.
