The U.S. House this week passed a bill that would make daylight savings time permanent. The idea is popular with most Americans (as well as the Trump Administration), since it would allow it to stay light later in the winter. In fact, the Georgia legislature already passed Senate Bill 100 back in 2021, which would immediately make the switch as soon as Congress approves. The hold up? Atlanta Beltline light rail back on the menu?
Many Atlantans were dismayed when Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly tabled the idea of light rail along the Atlanta Beltline, the city’s wildly popular and successful pedestrian path. After all, light rail was a core part of the loop’s original vision, meant to connect the city all around its (eventual) 22-mile loop. But now the Atlanta City Council is pushing back, with 11 councilmembers, led by Atlanta City Councilwoman Kelsea Bond signing onto a resolution signaling support for the idea.
