When Manuel’s Tavern opened in Atlanta’s Poncey-Highland neighborhood on August 6th, 1956, it was just another neighborhood bar, serving mostly Emory students. But in the 70s it became a hot spot for Democratic Party politicos. Jimmy Carter announced his run for governor of Georgia there, and it began hosting election night watch parties and other gatherings.
