Perdue, Isakson, Join in on Iran Controversy

U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue were among the 46 Senators who signed the open letter to the leaders of Iran Monday.  The letter warns that any deal made between the President and Iran’s leaders would require Congressional approval, and that without it would merely be an executive agreement, subject to change, (or outright termination) when President Obama leaves office.

Said Perdue in a press release, “We cannot accept a bad deal with Iran regarding its nuclear program. President Obama must work with Congress in making sure that Iran is never capable of obtaining a nuclear weapons capability.  Congress should have the opportunity to review any agreement reached with Iran to ensure the Obama Administration has not made any dangerous concessions throughout the process. It’s critical that the leaders of Iran are aware of Congress’ role, and I call on President Obama to responsibly work with Congress so that we can make sure Iran’s ambition for a nuclear weapon is quelled.”

Critics, (almost uniformly from the left) have called the letter an act of sedition, if not outright treason, (it’s not treason by definition, if you were wondering) saying that it undermines the President’s, and thereby the United States’, ability to negotiate a deal and could very well lead to war.
