An InsiderAdvantage survey of 434 Georgians conducted Jan. 29 shows approval for President Obama among Georgians at only 37%, while 61% of respondents said they disapprove of the president’s job performance.
Obama’s biggest source of support comes from Democrats, of course. Sixty-eight percent approve of his job performance, while only 28% disapprove. The rest are undecided.
Republicans gave the president a dismal 5% approval rating.
Independent voters were split over the president’s job performance, with 46% approving and 48% disapproving, with the rest undecided.
African Americans approved of President Obama at a commanding 88% level. But among white voters, his approval in Georgia has slipped to just 24%.
InsiderAdvantage CEO Matt Towery: “These numbers are not too surprising, given that Georgia usually runs about four to five points below the national levels of support, or approval, for President Obama.
“In November 2012, the president was around 49% in his national approval rating (from Gallup) and he ended up with 45% of the vote in Georgia.
“In the most recent Gallup survey, the president’s approval rating nationally is 41% and, true to form, he’s about four points below that in Georgia.
“What Democrats taking on Republicans in statewide races this fall in Georgia must hope for is that support for the president increases among white voters; that his overall approval is at least in the mid-forties percentile range; and that African-American voters turn out in huge numbers. But as for now, the president is suffering from those midterm blues. To give Democrats in Georgia a fighting chance, he will have to regain some of his prior momentum.”
